Thomas Tuchel slams Bayern Munich after Lazio loss – ‘We did everything to lose!’ | Football
Thomas Tuchel bemoaned that his Bayern Munich team ‘stopped believing’ during their defeat at Lazio in the Champions League.
10-man Bayern were woeful as they deservedly lost 1-0 in Rome on Wednesday night thanks to a Ciro Immobile penalty.
This was the German giants first Champions League last 16 first leg defeat for 11 seasons, and the first game in five years that they failed to register a shot on target.
Harry Kane called the result disappointing, but manager Tuchel was far more scathing in his assessment, saying post-match: ‘In the first half, we had to take the lead. We had three clear chances. We have to do these things.
‘[The second half was] characterised by uncertainty again. It was a bit slapstick.
‘We did everything to lose this match. It was in our hands.
‘At a certain point we stopped believing, I’ve no idea why. There were many individual mistakes.’
Bayern are five points off Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race, out of the German Cup after being beaten by a side from the third-tier and now their Champions League hopes hang by a thread.
All in all, this could well end up being their first trophy-less season for 12 years, but even if results turn around Tuchel’s future at the Allianz Arena is looking bleak.
The former Chelsea boss only took over from Julian Nagelsmann a year ago but has already lost the same amount of games as his predecessor (10) in half the number of matches.
The 50-year-old is defiant that he is the right man for the job, bluntly stating: ‘No, I’m not worried about my future or [the] potential sack.’
