Former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves was released from prison on Monday after posting a €1 million (£857,000) bail.

In February, Alves was sentenced to jail for four-and-a-half years in jail after being found guilty of raping a woman in a nightclub on December 31, 2022.

The 40-year-old has served about a quarter of his four-and-a-half-year sentence.

Alves has been ordered to relinquish both his Brazilian and Spanish passports meaning he is unable to leave Spain.

He must also appear before the court on a weekly basis. The court imposed a restraining order barring him from coming within 1,000 metres (3,300 feet) of the victim.
